Loved it. The description sort of turned my off, but glad I chose to watch.

From a time when a judge was a respected person
I do not know, when you compare the judge and how they are preceived in this film with today, then this idealized version in 'A Stranger in Town' reveals a large gap. He is an authority and becomes an important figure towards the end. Could something of equal proporions really happen today? I do not think so.
Aside from this, the film is a nice watch and the characters are charming. Do not look too close at the story, because there are some considerable gaps and strange events, but it is entertaining alright.
The romance gives the impression of being a bit forced... maybe it had been a prerequisite for films of its era to contain such.

Good Bit of Fun
This movie doesn't treat the legal issues very seriously, and one gets the feeling that the Supreme Court justice (Frank Morgan) doesn't either. A fun and lighthearted romp, I highly recommend it.

Funny - entertaining - charming
I have always loved the 'underdog gets a leg up against evil' plot. It gets a bit corny, even silly at times, this is a charming, well acted bit of diversion.
Great story and superb players make for a wonderful time.
5 stars.

Wizard of Oz & Dale Arden Fight City Hall! (Dorothy & Flash were out of town)
Frank Morgan as an incognito Supreme Court justice on a hunting trip, is sidetracked to help a young lawyer (Richard Carlson) fight a corrupt political machine. Jean Rogers gets in a few good licks as the judge's no-nonsense secretary. Lots of familiar faces fill out the cast. A bit of a legal fairytale, but if you suspend your powers of disbelief you'll have fun with this one. I did. Good print.
